ateljé Lyktan at 75

Seventy-five years ago, two young enthusiasts started up a small business. One side of the business was to be a workshop, the other lighting. From the Swedish words for these activities the business received the name ateljé Lyktan. Sweden’s oldest lighting business has decided to celebrate this birthday during the whole of 2009, and also bring to public knowledge the company’s remarkable story. The book ”Ljuset ska vara vitt och lysa fritt – historien om ateljé Lyktan” (”Light must be white and it must shine freely – the story of ateljé Lyktan”) will be published in the autumn by Arvinius. Behind this publication is Johan Jansson and critic and editor Staffan Bengtsson.

In the book Johan Jansson together with Staffan Bengtsson will tell the story of ateljé Lyktan’s road to success in Sweden and internationally. It is a tale of how unusually gifted personalities such as Hans Bergström, Anders Pehrson and Per Sundstedt were able to develop the company’s products and lighting philosophy and constantly remain in the eye of the design world and consumers. Quite simply, a piece of popular education about a small business in Southern Sweden which over the years had world metropolises such as New York, Milan and Munich at its feet.

ateljé Lyktan has chosen to celebrate this seventy-five year long journey in the service of light during the whole of 2009. Apart from the book, the anniversary has resulted in an anniversary luminaire which will be produced together with sports car manufacturer Koenigsegg in Ängelholm. The book ”Ljuset ska vara vitt och lysa fritt – historien om ateljé Lyktan” (“Light must be white and it must shine freely – the story of ateljé Lyktan”) will be in the shops in November 2009.
